Starting out

Go to digsite with the gnome glider or walk there, and then head a little north west. You will see Launa there. Talk to her and accept to look for her husband and son. Use rope on the Rift and go down.

Souls Bane Entering Rift

First Room (Anger)
"Why should I, Tolna, be trapped in such a retched place? Feel my ANGER!"

Attack the creatures with the right weapons until they die. You can pick the right weapon from the weapon shelf next to the exit. The weapons work as follows:

  • Spear - Bear
  • Sword - Unicorn
  • Mace - Rat
  • Battleaxe - Goblin

When you are full on anger, you will see a cutscene and can then proceed to the next room.

Second room (Fear)
"I’m trapped and it’s so dark. I FEAR I may never escape this place. Mum, help me!"

Keep looking at the dark holes one by one until you have fought enough of the reapers to proceed. After your character has killed five Fear Reapers, you are not afraid any more and you get a short cutscene. After the cutscene go through the black hole on the western wall.

Third room (Confusion)
"Where am I? How long have I been here? Am I still the person I once was? I hate my CONFUSION"

In this room, there are a lot of hallucination creatures and one real creature in every group of monsters. Attack the creatures and try to find the right one. The hallucinations (the fake monsters) will disappear after they have taken eight hits. They won't take any damage but they will poison you. When you fight the real monster it will take damage and it may or may not poison you. You have to kill the real monster of the group five times to get the wrong doors to disappear. Enter the only door left, after the cutscene, to proceed.

Souls Bane Confusion Creature

Fourth room (Hopelessness)
"What’s the point? Why do I defy such HOPELESSNESS? No-one will ever help me."

In this room, there are crawling creatures that seem to attack you with blue balls. When you enter, they might drain a bit of your prayer away. The creatures don't deal damage to you, however. They will attack you with melee and can damage you a little, but the blue balls won't do anything. Attack the hopeless creatures until they die off completely. They will get smaller and replenish their life points fully two times, so you have to reduce their life points bar to zero three times. After they are dead, and you watch the cutscene, proceed through the bridge of hope.

Souls Bane Bridge

Fifth room

Attack the three heads after the cutscene. They can poison you and attack with ranged. It is easiest to simply melee them. After killing the three heads, Tolna will appear. After another short cutscene, talk to him to get teleported back to the surface. (If this doesn't work, log out and log back in.) Now talk to Tolna once more to finish the quest.

Tips, Tricks & Notes

  • If you log out in the Rift, you will be at the entrance of the Rift when you log back in. When you enter, you get to continue from where you left off though.
  • Everything in the dungeon uses melee, so melee armour or melee prayer is what you want to use if you are having problems.
  • After the quest, the Fear Reapers, Hopeless Creatures and Confusion Beasts are good training experience. They have many high LP and low defence.
  • A weapon which hits quickly (e.g. a dagger or Scimitar) is ideal for this quest, especially for the hallucination beasts in the Confusion room.
