Introduction F2P capes Quest-related capes Cosmetic capes Minigame/Activity capes Utility/Skilling capes Capes of Achievement Capes of Distinction Credits IntroductionCapes in RuneScape serve a much bigger purpose than covering your back. They can show off achievements, show your participation in holiday events, show your clan, help to improve your skilling and combat abilities, and prove that you've finished just about everything the game has to offer. Stored here are all the capes in the game, along with a summary of their uses. More information can be found in the specific item entries. No outfit is quite complete without a cape! The requirements for the completionist and trimmed completionist capes are located at the bottom of the page. Return to TopFree-to-play CapesAll of the following capes can be earned and worn within the free-to-play game. Regular Cape & Recolours (F2P)Let's start here: the standard cape. This can be dropped by the highwaymen that roam the paths north and south of Falador.
To recolour your regular cape, simply use a dye on it; the methods of obtaining these dyes are detailed below. Many of these capes can also be bought from shops around RuneScape. All re-coloured regular capes have the same stats as the original cape. The pink re-colour is members only, as the method of obtaining it is only available to members. Members can also make black mushroom ink and use it on any coloured cape to revert it to its original black colour.
Wilderness Capes (F2P)These handy capes will help you out if you are in the wilderness with a group of friends. If a player is not on your friends list, and your group wears the same team cape, other players will appear as a blue dot on your mini map which helps with locating your team. Players on your friends list will still appear green on the map. The team cape also moves the "Attack" option on players wearing the same team cape to a right-click option to prevent accidental attacks. There are 10 salesmen that wander the wilderness selling these capes, and their general locations are listed below. All of the team capes have the same stats.
Other statless capes (F2P)None of these capes have any stats, but are designed to show off specific details about your character. The herald cape shows your allegiance to one of three cities of Varrock, Lumbridge, or Falador. The clan cloak proves your membership in a clan and carries the clan's customisable emblems and colours. The cape of validation proves you have validated your RuneScape account with a valid email address.
Return to TopQuest-related CapesAll of the following capes are obtained during or after a quest or miniquest, these are listed alongside the item. Many of these capes cannot be traded. See the related item entries or quest guides for more information on how to obtain the capes. The H.A.M Cloak and fremmenik cloaks can be bought from other players at any time before the related quests.
* After the bonesack is enchanted it becomes the bonesack(e) which allows a teleport to the Odd Old Man once per week. ** To obtain the ghostly cloak, the ghostly robes miniquest must be completed - a pre-requisite of this is the Desert Treasure quest. *** The colour of a soul wars cape can be changed at any time by talking to Zimberfizz at Sour Wars after the quest, he can also replace a soul wars cape for a 150,000gp fee. Return to TopCosmetic-only CapesThese capes have no stats, and are worn to show attendance at a holiday event or for cosmetic reasons. Holiday Event CapesThe capes below are now discontinued, and were obtained during past holiday events.
Squeal of Fortune CapesAll of these capes have been available as a prize on the Squeal of Fortune and have no stats. Many were only available as a short term promotion, and as a result are discontinued.
Other cosmetic capesThis section is for capes that do not fall under any specific class. Methods of obtaining these capes are detailed alongside them.
Return to TopMinigame/Activity CapesSome capes can be only be obtained from the many minigames and activities within RuneScape. The majority of these are not trade-able and show off an impressive achievement or have excellent stats. Castle Wars CloaksAvid Castle Wars players can buy one of the cloaks that are worn during the game for 10 tickets from Lanthus. The red cape represents the Zamorak team, while the blue cape represents the Saradomin team. In addition, players who are exceptionally accomplished at Castle Wars can buy special capes to show off their dedication and skills in the game. These capes cost a meagre 2 tickets each, but each also comes with an additional requirement that requires an in-game accomplishment.
God Capes and CloaksPlayers with over 60 Magic can attempt the Mage Arena in the high level members wilderness. On completion, the player is awarded a God cape of their choice. To get the cape, head to the Mage Arena bank and jump into the pool. If you don't already have one of the god capes, or have lost your cape, pray at your chosen gods statue and the cape will appear at your feet. Wearing this cape allows the user to cast the Charge spell, which increases the damage done by God spells. You can only have one god cape at a time and they cannot be traded to other players. Saradomin is the blue cape, Zamorak is the red cape, and Guthix is the green cape. Treasure Trails may reward you with a very different God cloak, giving a +3 prayer boost. Level 40 prayer is required to wear these cloaks. They are white and bear the coloured symbol of their respective patron god. They are arranged below; from left to right, they are : the Saradomin cloak, the Zamorak cloak, the Guthix cloak, the Armadyl cloak, the Bandos cloak, and the Ancient cloak.
The third-age druidic cloak can be obtained from Elite Treasure Trails on incredibly rare occasions. It requires 65 prayer to wear and has a decent prayer bonus.
TzHaar CapesFor those that are skilled at combat, there are the TzHaar capes. The obsidian cape can be bought using collected tok'kul (the TzHaar currency) or bought from other players. In the Fight Caves, you will have to strategically switch combat styles and defence styles to kill the monsters in the quickest way possible while avoiding death at all times. Only after all 63 waves of the Fight Caves have been completed and TzTok-Jad has been defeated can the fire cape be claimed. In the Fight Kiln, the monsters, which include multiple waves of TokHaar-Jad, are far stronger, their attacks are not fully blocked by prayer, and to even enter you must sacrifice a fire cape. After completing the Fight Kiln and defeating Har-Aken you may claim the TokHaar-Kal. Both the fire cape and TokHaar-Kal are great accomplishments.
Return to TopUtility/Skilling CapesThese capes are usually worn for their useful combat stats, effects, or bonuses for skilling. Due to this, many of them cannot be bought from other players and have other requirements to obtain. Animal MagnetismThe Animal Magnetism quest rewards players with an attractor or accumulator. When worn in the cape slot, it picks up around 75% of your dropped arrows and deposits them into your arrow slot or pack. Any obstacle between you and the arrows will block this ability. After the Do No Evil quest, the accumulator can be further upgraded to Ava's alerter, which provides slightly higher stat bonuses. Note: These devices will only function on members' worlds.
In addition, these devices can collect various metal items randomly, usually arrows, but also ores, bars and other items. Walking around improves the rate of collection of these items. The attractor collects iron items and requires 30 ranged; the accumulator collects steel items and requires 50 ranged. This function can be turned off if desired using the right-click option on the device. Ardougne CloaksThe Ardougne Task cloaks are the reward for completing the easy, medium, hard, and elite tasks in Ardougne. Wearing these cloaks will give you several advantages which are listed in the task guide rewards section. They are primary worn for their combination of magic and stab accuracies, along with a prayer bonus.
Hunters' CapesThese capes are used primarily for their weight reduction. A spotted cape will reduce your weight by 3 kg, and a spottier cape will reduce it by 5kg. They can be worn if you have the required hunter level - 40 for spotted, 66 for spottier. The Hunter skill guide explains how to make these capes.
Spirit CapeThe spirit cape is often worn by monster hunters, and bought from the Daemonheim rewards shop for 45,000 tokens. The cape reduces the cost of familiar special attacks by 20%, and applies to most combat familiars, such as a Steel titan. The Unicorn Stallion scroll special is also affected, however the Pack Yak special is not. Some players carry another more useful cape with them, and switch to the spirit cape when using combat familiar specials. Using a spirit cape on the completionist cape will allow the completionist cape to gain this effect.
Standard Combat CapesThese three capes are first found right after the tutorial in Burthorpe, give minor bonuses to offensive stats, and a slight prayer bonus. The bladestorm drape is for melee users, the arrowstorm drape is for ranged users, and the spellstorm drape is for magic users. In almost all cases they are outclassed by other capes, however they are a good place to start. They are dropped by trolls in Burthorpe and Taverley, and can be bought from other players or from the Grand Exchange.
Wicked CapeThe wicked cape is a reward from the Runespan and enhances the effect of the wicked hood, increasing the number of pure essence that can be withdrawn each day. The cape does not have to be worn for this to occur, however the cape reduces the player's weight by 6kg, which can be useful when runecrafting. If the cape is lost, another will have to be bought - it cannot be reclaimed.
Return to TopCapes of AchievementMembers who reach level 99 in a skill can buy an achievement cape from the related skill master for a 99,000gp. If you have 99 in more than one skill, you will get a trimmed cape for your efforts. The trimmed skillcape has a +4 prayer bonus over a standard skillcape. Those who have completed every single quest can buy the Quest cape from the Wise Old Man for the same price. For more information on the Capes of Achievement and where to get them, refer to our Achievement Capes guide. Return to TopCapes of DistinctionThese capes require you to complete various objectives and tasks before they can be bought, ranging from obtaining level 10 in all skills for a simple milestone cape to some of the hardest and most time consuming accomplishments in the game for a trimmed completionist cape. Milestone CapesThese capes can be woven by a player when they reach a certain level in all skills. The first cape can be worn when a player reaches level 10 in all skills, and a new cape is unlocked every 10 levels thereafter. The last cape can be worn when a player reaches level 90 in all skills. These capes do not have an associated emote. More information on weaving can be found in the crafting guide.
Veteran and Classic CapesThese capes are fairly simple to earn. Hans, a farmer who walks around the Lumbridge castle, will sell a veteran cape (5 year) for 50,000 coins to any player whose account is at least five years old. Use the skill cape emote to rise out of the ground atop a giant letter "V". Hans will also sell a veteran cape (10 year) for 100,000 coins to any player whose account is at least ten years old. Use the skill cape emote to leap into the air and transform into a golden "X". Iffie, the elderly woman in Thessalia's Fine Clothes Shop (located in Varrock square), will sell a classic cape for 50,000 coins to anyone who has played RuneScape Classic. Use the skill cape emote to see some of the skill icons used back then!
Max CapeMax, who runs around Varrock, will sell the max cape to players who have earned level 99 in every skill - level 120 Dungeoneering is not required. If you have trouble finding him, just wait in the east Varrock bank for a while, as he will stop there eventually. The cape costs 99,000 coins for every skill it represents, for a total of 2,475,000 coins. Players can customize its colours by right clicking the cape. These custom colours apply to both max capes and completionist capes.
Completionist CapeEarning the completionist cape is one of the most impressive achievements in Runescape, requiring thousands of hours of work. Players who complete the many daunting requirements are rewarded with a cape that has excellent stat bonuses, draws admiration from all players, and has an emote that turns the player into a giant, firebreathing dragon. Players who think themselves worthy can visit the top floor of the Varrock Museum with 5,000,000 coins. If you wish to know what tasks you have left, simply try to take the cape and, after being turned into an animal, you will see a list of what you need to do. The trimmed version is free and has no further bonuses, but has improved looks, a golden version of the emote, and many more requirements.
