Field Original Correction
Name Iron ore
Examine Can be smelted into an iron bar. Used in Smithing (15).
Location Dwarven mines, East Varrock mines, Al Kharid mines, Edgville dungeon, Haunted mine, south-west Varrock, Jungle Mine, Rimmington, Taverley, Ardougne Sewers, East Ardougne, Grand Tree, Port Khazard, Hobgoblin's Mine (32 Wilderness), Pirate's Mine (54 Wilderness), Steel mine (8 Wilderness), Dorgeshuun Mines.
Made by Transmuting 3 Copper ore and 2 Flickering energy - requires level 17 Divination and gives 3.7 Divination xp.
Used in Coal, Divine iron rock, Granite crab pouch, Iron bar, Silver ore, Steel bar
Uses Use this on a furnace to make an iron bar. Use it with 2 coal ores, and make a steel bar. Also used as a second to make Granite crab pouches (level 16 Summoning required.)
Notes This ore will refine 50% of the time when trying to make an iron bar. However, each level you gain above level 15 adds another 1% chance of success to your iron smelting success rate (if you were level 30, you'd have a 65% success rate), until level 45 Smithing. At this level, you have a 80% chance of success. This entire problem, however, can be avoided by either wearing a Ring of Forging (ruby enchanted ring, will work for 140 ores) or using the "Superheat item" spell (43 Magic) on the ore. Both allow you to successfully smelt iron 100% of the time. 15 Mining is needed to mine this ore, 15 Smithing needed to make an iron bar, and 30 Smithing needed to make a steel bar.
