New Varrock Tasks

This minigame is very dynamic, involving different levels of tasks. Because of this, the minigame risk ratings are given in the task summaries (found at the beginning of the Easy, Medium, Hard and Elite task listings).

Starting

The New Varrock Tasks contain tasks that can be completed by low, medium, and high level players. They are closely tied to the Dimension of Disaster quest, requiring varying degrees of completion - but you will need to do the quest at least twice through for all rewards. What to wear is for you to decide, using your best judgement. Only selected tasks directly involve combat, so armour will not be necessary except for very low levels, who may want defence against ordinary monsters that exist around the towns. If you are going to fight a monster you might want armour and weapons. However, if you do not plan to do anything involving fighting and will be in a safe area, then lightweight clothing is suggested.

In general, Jagex allows players to use stat boosting items (such as potions, pies, ales or Evil Dave's stew) to increase a stat to do a task - however in New Varrock these can be somewhat hard to get a hold of and may not be worthwhile over training the skill a couple more levels. Also, player assist does not work. You are allowed to trade in New Varrock with other players, which can be an asset if you have a friend to help, as you can share armour or other such materials.

Every time you finish a task, you will get a message in your chat window stating that you've completed a task. You can perform the tasks in any order (Easy, Medium, Hard or Elite) that you wish. In order to help players plan effectively, a map showing the location for each task is available. It shows a code number for each task, which matches the lists in this guide. Check the map, bring what you need, and you're on your way!

Elite Tasks

Elite tasks have these criteria:

  • Higher-ranged to very high skill requirements (level~75)
  • Higher-ranged quest requirements
  • Higher-ranged to very difficult level of difficulty

Requirements:

Skills: 90 Thieving, 91 Constitution, 75 Range, 75 Magic, 75 Attack, 20 Defence

Quests: Dimension of Disaster (and all quests to unlock it)

Items: Lockpick, 7 spider silk OR 9 steel bars OR leather body, chaps, and one piece of leather to make a coif

Completed Elite Tasks:Hide/Show

ELITE TASKS
Complete Map Code Task Requirements
X1 "Dark Imperator-ment" - At New Varrock's museum Loarnab display, re-enact an event from your own history. 91 Constitution, 75 Range, 75 Magic, 75 Attack
Push the red button and select the following in order (or else it won't work): Blood, Shadow, Smoke, Ice
X2 "Changing of the Guard" - Defeat a New Varrock guard. Note: do not underestimate this task! High combat and food recommended
Level 20 gear (required for Steel, Stud or Silk Salute task), weapon and some food is strongly recommended and will help kill the guard faster. For fastest completion, spider silk is recommended, as it is the easiest to obtain (see task X3 below). This gear is also helpful for the next task. It can be killed without gear/food but there is a chance of dying without healing abilities. This can be a threat, even with maxed combat, due to the implicit low level gear restriction, if multiple guards gang up on you at once.

Therefore, it is recommended to use safespots, like standing behind a fence to attack them without being attacked. One should also be cautious if meleeing since there is a chance to be attacked by multiple guards.

For food, cook some undead beef or, if you haven't yet used them, you may loot some chests and obtain some stackable stew which heals up to 625. Alternatively, if you trade Gertrude in New Varrock, she sells 10 chocolate cake for 140 zemomarks each and heal 1250 life points. You can also purchase more stew from her. Cakes and stew are both stackable, which helps conserve inventory space.
X3 "Steel, Stud or Silk Salute" - Perform the Salute emote while wearing a full set of level 20 armour in New Varrock. Level 20 armour, and 20 Defence to wear it.
You need 7 spider silk, 9 steel bars, or a leather body and leather chaps (which you can buy), one leather (to make coif) from tanner and 2 steel studs.
It is recommended that one buys the Sani and Zaff upgrade from Gypsy Ari's reward shop (requires completion of Dimension of Disaster), as it will give you 7 spider silk which is enough to make the helm, body, and legs. Silk is recommended as it requires less inventory spaces and is easiest to make.

Otherwise, you may buy 7 silk from Zaff and some thread and craft a spider silk hood, spider silk robe top and spider silk robe bottom. Wear it then do the salute emote.

You can also obtain silk and steel studs as drops from New Varrock guards, or trade another player for it.
X4 "The Moo-er of All Bombs" - When fighting Zemouregal in Curse of Arrav subquest, damage him at least five times with exploding cows. None.
Requires partial completion of Curse of Arrav subquest in Dimension of Disaster, as well as the Shield of Arrav, Demon Slayer, and Defender of Varrock subquests.
X5 "Top Pick" - Use a lockpick to access Zemouregal's lost property chest (in his study north-west of the castle). 90 Thieving, Lockpick
Requires partial completion of Curse of Arrav subquest up to point where you retrieve the code key from Zemouregal's desk in the study.

Map of Chests

This is a map of all the thieving chests available in New Varrock for use when completing the related tasks, divided into upstairs and downstairs chests. You can interact with this map using the check boxes in the top left corner.

The special chest icons indicate a group of 5 chests, each located upstairs in either the Phoenix Gang hideout
or the Black Arm Gang hideout. You can only access one set of five chests on each playthrough of the
quest, so unlocking all the chests requires a minimum of two playthroughs.

Rewards

The rewards from the New Varrock tasks consist of boosts to zemomarks for subsequent replays and buffs to Varrock armour.

Each task completed in all four tiers (easy, med, hard, elite) offers an increase in amount of zemomarks to the total amount of zemomarks received in the Curse of Arrav subquest - so if you did not complete any of the tasks, you will get 100 zemomarks on completion. A table of the bonus to zemomarks received follows:

  • no tasks completed: 100 zemomarks
  • Easy tasks done: up to an additional 50 zemomarks
  • Med tasks done: up to an additional 100 zemomarks
  • Hard tasks done: up to an additional 150 zemomarks
  • Elite tasks done: up to an additional 200 zemomarks

The total amount of zemomarks for completing the Curse of Arrav subquest is 550 upon finishing all of the tasks. There are two zemomark rewards: the one-off for task completion (note tasks are not reset), and then the bonus to the zemomarks gained by completing the Curse of Arrav subquest on subsequent playthroughs of the quest.

All Easy Tasks complete

  • Varrock Armour has increased chance to smith double ores.
  • 50 zemomarks upon completion (10 for each task).
  • Earn up to an additional 50 Zemomarks (10 for each task) upon completion of the Curse of Arrav subquest in subsequent playthroughs.

All Medium Tasks complete
  • All rewards from the Easy tasks.
  • 100 zemomarks upon completion (20 for each task).
  • Earn up to an additional 100 zemomarks (20 for each task) upon completion of the Curse of Arrav subquest in subsequent playthroughs.

All Hard Tasks complete

  • All rewards from the Medium tasks.
  • 150 zemomarks upon completion (30 for each task).
  • Earn up to an additional 150 zemomarks (30 for each task) upon completion of Curse of Arrav subquest in subsequent playthroughs.

All Elite Tasks complete

  • All rewards from the Hard tasks.
  • Varrock armour's benefits (from previous New Varrock tasks) affect almost any furnance, instead of just the Varrock/Edgeville furnaces (dependant on which dimension you are currently in).
  • 200 zemomarks upon completion (40 for each task).
  • Earn up to an additional 200 zemomarks (40 for each task) upon completion of Curse of Arrav subquest in subsequent playthroughs.

Congratulations on completing the Tasks for New Varrock!
