Stronghold of Security

Introduction

The Stronghold of Security is a dungeon available for both members and non-members. Players of any level can enter and explore this four-level maze of questioning gates, exotic creatures, and pure fun to receive various rewards and to better learn about security in game.

The dungeon consists of four different levels, each of them being a maze with several doors. There are no specific requirements to complete the maze, however security questions need to be answered to open most of the doors. These are easy questions that verify the player has a basic knowledge of the rules to follow in order to keep his or her account safe, such as the use of password, bank pin or recovery questions. A pink book containing all the necessary security information can be bought from any general store. Read it to keep your account safe and to learn the answers to the security questions in the dungeon.

Requirements

Although even low-levels can complete the Stronghold of Security, be careful. The dungeon is populated with aggressive monsters level 80 and higher. Good armour is suggested to defend against these monsters, although due to the amount of running involved you should travel as light as possible. Please remember that if you die inside this dungeon you will lose your items.

The entrance to the dungeon is found in the Barbarian Village and consists of a hole in the ground in the middle of the mining area. You can talk to the NPC Litara before you go down and you can search her brother's remains after you enter the dungeon to find his journal. This journal provides information about the dungeon's structure and what lies ahead of you. The dungeon consists of four levels and at each level you have to go from the entrance to the exit by passing through a maze of doors and rooms with monsters. The four levels are named after the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: The Vault of War, The Catacomb of Famine, The Pit of Pestilence and The Sepulchre of Death. Please note that while the first level is a multi-combat area, the other three are not.

Ladders near the exit point let you go down to the next level, while ladders near the entrance point let you go back up to the previous level (or the surface). There are other ladders in the maze that take you to another part of the dungeon (see the Stronghold of Security Map for more information). A bone chain at the end of the last level can take you back to the surface. After completing a level, it is possible to use a portal near the entrance of the level to go directly to the level's exit. If your combat level is high enough, you can use these portals even if you haven't completed that dungeon level yet. Thus, higher level players can skip the first parts of the dungeon by using the portals.

Level One - The Vault of War

The Vault of War is the first level of the dungeon. You should move from the entrance point in the NW corner towards the exit point on the East side while passing through several doors of war by answering security questions. The Minotaurs are not aggressive and they are useful to kill as they drop a part of the skull sceptre (see the Rewards section for more details). Upon arriving at the exit room, you will see a chest that can be searched for 2,000 coins and a new emote. Go down the ladder for the second floor.

Level Four - The Sepulchre of Death

The Sepulchre of Death is the fourth and final level of the dungeon. You should move from the entrance point in the East side towards the exit point in the centre while passing through several portals of death by answering security questions. You can use the Stronghold of Security Map for help navigating through this maze. This level is populated by skeletons (level 60/68/85), ghosts (level 76/77) and ankous (level 86/88/90). The Ankous are useful to kill as they drop a part of the skull sceptre (see the Rewards section for more details). When arriving at the exit room, you will see the "Cradle of Life" that can be searched for a new emote and a pair of boots (see the Rewards section for more details). Please keep in mind that you must have your account recovery questions set in order to get the reward from the "Cradle of Life". Congratulations, you have completed the Stronghold of Security and you can now go up to the surface on the bone chain.

Rewards

You will gain the ability to perform a new emote after each of the four levels you complete. These emotes are: flap, head slap, stamp and idea. Upon completing the last level, and only if you have your recovery questions set, you will also have the choice between two pairs of boots: fancy and fighting. Both have the same stats, they only differ in colour. If you lose your boots or want to change them to the other pair, you only need to search the "Cradle of Life" (by using portals to get there quickly - no need to do the mazes again).

Once you have completed the minigame, you will no longer need to answer questions at the doors throughout the Stronghold.

Skull Sceptre

Another reward that can be obtained from the Stronghold of Security is the Skull Sceptre. There are four parts of the sceptre that are obtained as monster drops:

Sceptre part Monster Dungeon Level
Skull Right Half Skull Right Half Minotaur Level 1
Bottom of Sceptre Bottom of Sceptre Flesh crawler Level 2
Top of Torso Top of Sceptre Catablepon Level 3
Skull Left Half Skull Left Half Ankou Level 4

After you have at least one of each type of piece you can make the Skull Sceptre. Use the Skull Right Half with the Skull Left Half to get the skull. Next, use the Bottom of Sceptre with the Top of Sceptre to create the handle, then use the skull with the handle. The sceptre can be wielded as a weapon (stats below) and provides 5 teleports (10 if wearing varrock armour, from the Varrock Achievement Diary) to the Barbarian Village after which it disintegrates. If desired, another skull sceptre can then be built. Another bonus of wearing varrock armour is that, when worn, the chance of receiving a piece of the skull sceptre as a monster drop is improved. Please note that although it is possible to have several identical sceptre pieces at the same time, it is not possible to have several full sceptres. Just hold on to the extra pieces you have and use them to make another sceptre when the old one disintegrates.
