Tormented Demon GuideOverview
Return to TopGetting ThereEnter the Lumbridge Swamp caves, beneath the Lumbridge Castle, and then head south to the Tears of Guthix area where the light creatures are flying around. Use your Sapphire Lantern with one of them and select the second option to go into the chasm. This will bring you to the Guthixian Temple entrance. Your sapphire lantern is no longer of any use beyond this point. Proceed south until you reach two sets of walls to climb. Climb both walls and enter cave opening - the mouth of the skull. You'll now be in the Guthixian Temple. Continue south past the stone table and Guthix symbol on the floor until you come to the Tormented Demon lair, seen below outlined in red. Return to TopEquipmentTormented Demons are one of the few bosses in RuneScape where defense plays no role. Because the player is consistently using protection prayers, gear is primarily focused around damage output. The only time a player is vulnerable to attacks is after a Demon switches attack styles or when fighting more then one at a time. For these reasons, a small healing method, such as food, scrimshaws, auras, or familiars, should be used. As magic and ranged lack useful thresholds for killing Tormented Demons, it's not recommended to bring both styles. For this reason, this guide will only include a combination of magic and ranged with melee. If you lack the levels or funds for the items specified, downgrade to the lower tier equivalent. If you lack the level for a steel titan, downgrade to the highest level healing familiar you can access.
Return to TopLuringTo correctly lure a Tormented Demon, you must first understand a few basic movement mechanics. There are very things you can do to manipulate a Demon into going exactly where you want it to. A few of these are:
Most players beginning to take on this boss can only attack one at a time. There are siz Tormented Demons roaming their lair. For this reason, trapping them can be essential to survival. Don't over think it! Use the objects and pillars to your advantage! The image above correctly shows how to perform the south lure with two Tormented Demons. It utilizes the objects nearby as well as their movement mechanics. You can see how walking beneath them is a much easier way to push them into position, where you would have otherwise had to run further south behind the pillar which we're hiding. Return to TopFightingCombat MecanicsWhile fighting Tormented Demons, you'll immediately notice two unique combat mechanics. Firstly, they're the only monster in RuneScape that you must weaken to effectively kill. Secondly, you'll notice when you arrive that they can utilize protection prayers - although they will change their prayers when a sum of 3,100 damage of another attack style is dealt. If no damage is dealt, or the attack misses, it is counted as an invisible 200 toward this sum. During the kill, the Tormented Demon will use a variety of attacks. These are magic, melee, ranged, and splash. It is vital that you use protection curses or prayers to prevent taking damage, as they're very accurate. After blocking five attacks of a given style, the Tormented Demon will randomly switch to another after a brief roaring animation. If the roar is audible, it will then use a single splash attack. Each attack has its own unique animation. These, as well as some notes regarding its attack, can be seen below.
WeakeningTo begin a kill, lure a Tormented Demon as shown above. It helps to know that when a Tormented Demon spawns, until it is attacked, it will protect against melee and use its magic attack. Once the Tormented Demon is lured you'll need to weaken it. Either attack it using your Holy Water or deal roughly 310 magic or ranged damage to switch its prayer - allowing you to hit and weaken it with the Darklight. Once weakened, the Tormented Demon will remain vulnerable for 60 seconds until its shield returns. When killing Tormented Demons in groups, the common term to notify your team that the demon has been weakened is SD - standing for shield down. StrategiesTo kill Tormented Demons effectively, it is essential that you attempt to keep your adrenaline at roughly 65% or higher between kills. This is because thresholds are critical to fast kills. Every kill can be done in the relatively same pattern, using the same abilities and strategy each time. In short, the fastest pattern to follow is (assuming 65% adrenaline): Magic:
Using this strategy, often times the Tormented Demon will be nearly dead by the end of your Destroy ability - sometimes it will die as a result of Destroy. This results in the most efficient Tormented Demon kills. In the very unlikely event that a threshold misses, simply continue with basic abilities until reaching the next step.
