This skill is available to members only, free players can only train it as high as level 5.
Social Slayer, a part of the Slayer skill, supports the Grouping System.
Slayer - The Basics
Slayer is a members only skill which sees players assigned a specific amount of a certain monster to kill by a Slayer master. The monsters assigned vary depending on the Slayer master used but they can range from the humble spider right up to the mighty Nihil, Tormented demons and Glacors. As you advance your Slayer level new monsters are unlocked, some of them requiring special items to defeat. There are some monsters that can only be killed whilst on a Slayer task.
To start training Slayer, go to a Slayer master and ask for an assignment. They will assign you the task of killing a certain amount of monsters for them. If you are unhappy with or unable to complete your assignment you can either visit the master in Taverley who will give you something new free of charge but at the expense of your Slayer task streak. Alternatively you can use some of the points obtained from successfully completing consecutive tasks to cancel the assignment and ask for a new one (for more information on Slayer Points, click here).
Most Slayer assignments can be found in one of the several Slayer dungeons across Gielinor and the Chaos Tunnels are also home to many of the common assignments. In some cases it is possible to kill a monster related to the one you have been assigned, for example black dragon tasks can be completed by killing the King black dragon or the Queen black dragon. For skilled monster hunters this is often preferable due to the improved loot and greater challenge.
Slayer Aides
There are a number of items in the game that help with Slayer, many of them making it quicker to complete tasks or helping with drops.
Can be purchased from all Slayer masters for 1 gp.
Allows players to check their current assignment and how many they have left to kill as well as ask for tips from a Slayer master. The gem can be forged into a ring of slaying for ease with 75 Crafting.
Can be purchased from all Slayer masters for 75 Slayer Points. For a charge of 300 Points players can learn to craft the rings which requires 75 Crafting.
Has the same functions as an enchanted gem with the addition of 4 teleports: Sumona, Slayer Tower, Slayer Dungeon and Tarn's Lair. After 8 teleports the ring degrades to dust.
Can be purchased from the rewards trader in the Daemonheim camp for 100,000 tokens.
Automatically collects any gold, green, crimson or blue charms dropped by monsters. It can also destroy dropped charms for a small amount of Summoning experience.
Can be purchased from the Dungeoneering rewards trader for 34,000 tokens.
Herbicide can be used to automatically clean herbs dropped by monsters, giving you twice the amount of Herblore XP you would have normally received for cleaning that herb. It destroys the herb in the process. You can choose which herbs are cleaned in this way by right-clicking the herbicide and selecting the "Inspect" option.
Seeds dropped by monsters will be destroyed immediately. In return you will receive double the xp you would have gotten if you planted the seed. The seedicide can be fully configured to only destroy the seed types you selected.
Grants players a 12.5% damage increase and accuracy increase to magic, ranged and melee attacks against their current Slayer assignment. It also provides protection against Aberrant spectres, Dust devils, Wall beasts and Banshees. In addition you can right-click it to check how many kills you have left.
Slayer masks are obtainable from the Treasure Hunter minigame. The masks have many uses including: forcing a Slayer Master to assign you the relevant task, providing a small experience boost when killing the monster the mask is for (regardless of being on task or not), providing two daily teleports to the location of the monster the mask relates to, double drops every 10th kill and stats identical to the slayer helmet when on task. Once the mask has upgraded to a helm you can no longer gain bonus experience or double drops.
The mask requires 100 kills to transform it into the helm. It provides a free teleport twice per day to the Taverley Slayer Dungeon, Slayer Tower or Meiyerditch Caverns
The mask requires 200 kills to transform it into the helm. It provides a free teleport twice per day to the Slayer Tower (near Markus), Slayer Tower (first floor), or the Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon. The mask and helm act as a set of masked earmuffs, allowing you to access the Pollnivneach dungeon.
The mask requires 700 kills to transform it into the helm. It provides a free teleport twice per day to the Chaos Tunnels and the Smoke Dungeon. Acts as a face mask.
The mask requires 900 kills to transform it into the helm. It provides a free teleport twice per day to the Slayer Tower, the Abyss and Kuradal's Dungeon.
The mask requires 1000 kills to transform it into the helm. It provides a free teleport twice per day to the Kuradal's Dungeon and the Mourner Tunnels.
Made by using yellow spice on a stew. For more information on making Stews, please visit the cooking guide. This item is not tradeable.
A particularly handy feature for Slayers is the ability to add a selection of items that are required to deliver the killing blow to certain slayer targets amongst other useful items to the tool belt.
Automatically buries bones upon killing a monster to give prayer experience. Can be used in conjunction with a Demon horn necklace to restore prayer. Costs 500 Slayer points to unlock the ability to add this to the belt.
Automatically destroy seeds that are dropped for a small amount of experience. The seeds destroyed can be selected by right-clicking on the seedicide. Costs 500 Slayer points to unlock the ability to add this to the belt.
Automatically collects charms or can be set to destroy charms you do not want for a small amount of summoning experience. Costs 500 Slayer points to unlock the ability to add this to the belt.
Automatically destroy herbss that are dropped for a small amount of experience. The herbss destroyed can be selected by right-clicking on the herbicide. Costs 500 Slayer points to unlock the ability to add this to the belt.
Slayer masters are responsible for assigning players with monsters to kill, the higher your combat and Slayer levels the better masters you have access to. Note that some Slayer tasks require certain quests to be completed in order to access them. In addition to their standard assignments, each master has a Special Task which is unique to them and different to a normal task. These tasks tend to be more dangerous however successful completion of the task grants extra Slayer experience.
For more information about specific monsters or a group of monsters please refer to our Bestiary.

Requirements: Level 120 Combat and level 85 Slayer Reward: 50,000 Slayer XP Description: Some small fragments have Seren have made it into areas of conflict and Morvran wishes for you to retrieve them so that they may be cleansed. To do this you are required to kill each of the following: Araxxi, Commander Zilyana, Dagannoth Prime, Dagannoth Rex, Dagannoth Supreme, General Graardor, Giant mole (Hard Mode), Kalphite Queen, King Black Dragon, Kree'arra, K'ril Tsutsaroth & the Queen Black Dragon. Notes: You will receive a dark crystal for each boss you kill which must be carried when fighting the subsequent bosses. These crystals give you various debuffs such as reduced melee damage therefore it is advised you work from hard to easy, starting with Araxxi and finishing with the Giant Mole/King black dragon.
*Aquanites, Muspah and Nihil are not automatically assigned by Kuradal or Morvran, they must be purchased using Slayer points. After purchasing them, you can visit any Slayer master to toggle them off again.
Alternative Monsters
A large number of Slayer assignments are not restricted to the exact monster you have been assigned, many can be completed by killing monsters "related" to the one assigned. Many high levelled Slayers use this to their advantage to improve the profitability of Slayer or just for more of a challenge. Below is a table of popular alternatives to the monsters assigned.
Whilst levelling up Slayer you learn how to kill new and more dangerous opponents. These monsters can only be killed once you have reached the required Slayer level and some of them require special items to be killed which can be purchased from any Slayer master. Additionally some monsters, even when unlocked, can only be killed when assigned to do so by your Slayer master.
When killing some slayer creatures there is a chance that an elite version will spawn. For information on these please see the Elite Monsters section.
The gauntlets must be worn to auto-crush the Abominations, if the gauntlets are in your inventory you will have to right-click the Abomination and select "crush".
Fighting Banshees without earmuffs will almost certainly result in death. Note: If fighting the Mighty banshees in the Pollnivneach dungeon a face mask or masked earmuffs must be worn at all times.
To finish off a Rockslug you need to use rock salt on them. For 400 slayer points it is possible to purchase the ability to automatically finish them off so long as you have the rock salt in your inventory.
To finish off a Desert lizard you need to use an ice cooler on them. For 400 slayer points it is possible to purchase the ability to automatically finish them off so long as you have the ice cooler in your inventory. Waterskins or an enchanted water tiara are advised when fighting these to protect you from the heat of the desert.
When you use 1 fishing explosive on an "ominous fishing spot" (east side of the island only), 1 mogre will come out to fight you.
You need to have cured Skippy of his hangover to unlock this monster.
To fight the molanisks on the walls of the dungeon stand near them and ring your slayer bell which can be purchased from any slayer master. You will attack it immediately after it falls to the floor.
Fighting these without a mirror shield results in your stats being drastically lowered making survival almost impossible. A face mask is required to fight them in addition to the shield in the Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon.
The Rum Deal quest must have been started in order to be able to access this monster. If you fight this monster without the gloves you will take rapid damage and become diseased.
Turoth can only be harmed by any of the listed weaponry which makes them unpopular to kill for higher levelled players. Killing Turoth in the Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon requires a Face mask in addition to one of the weapons.
Without a crystal chime, the tortoises are immune to damage. For 400 Slayer points you can purchase the ability to automatically use the crystal chime on the tortoises.
Without a crystal chime, the terrorbirds are immune to damage. For 400 Slayer points you can purchase the ability to automatically use the crystal chime on the terrorbirds.
They originally appear as fungi and need to be "picked" in order to engage them in combat. To finish off a Zygomite you need to use fungicide on them. For 400 slayer points it is possible to purchase the ability to automatically finish them off so long as you have the fungicide in your inventory.
Fighting these without a nose peg results in your stats being depleted very rapidly. To fight them in the Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon a slayer helmet is required as both a face mask and nose peg are needed but the occupy the same equipment slot.
Kurasks can only be harmed by any of the listed weaponry which makes them unpopular to kill for higher levelled players. Killing Kurasks in the Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon requires a Face mask in addition to one of the weapons.
Wyverns have an ice breath attack which will hit you very hard if you do not have a dragonfire or elemental shield equipped or have protect/deflect magic activated. Antifire potions DO NOT work. Check out our skeletal wyvern guide for more information on how to kill them.
Jungle strykewyrms can only be lured out of the ground when assigned as a task. Occasionally they will bury underground and tunnel towards you, causing massive damage if you do not move. It is possible to take damage from other slayer's strykewyrms if they are nearby.
To finish off a Gargoyle you need to use a rock hammer on them. For 400 slayer points it is possible to purchase the ability to automatically finish them off so long as you have the hammer in your inventory.
The Blood, Ice, Shadow and Smoke Nihil all count. Completion of the Fate of the Gods quest is required to access them.
The Shard of Zaros makes the Nihil unaggressive which makes survival easier.
The Bladed, Force and Throwing Muspah all count. Completion of the Fate of the Gods quest is required to access them.
The Shard of Zaros makes the Muspah unaggressive which makes survival easier.
Desert strykewyrms can only be lured out of the ground when assigned as a task. Occasionally they will bury underground and tunnel towards you, causing massive damage if you do not move. It is possible to take damage from other slayer's strykewyrms if they are nearby. Waterskins or an enchanted water tiara are recommended to protect you from the desert heat.
Despite their combat level crystal shapeshifters are dangerous and can attack with all three combat styles, adjusting to the combat style you are using. They also use abilities including binding and damage over time which can quickly pile on damage if you are not prepared.
Any monster within the Ascension dungeon counts towards the Slayer task however Rorarius are the easiest to kill. Ascension grips are only dropped for players on a Slayer task.
The Armadylean, Bandosian, Saradominist and 2 results are available, use up and down arrow keys to navigate. Zamorakian variations all count. The Armadylean mages can only be damaged by ranged or magic attacks.
Abyssal demons are a milestone for every slayer and are widely hunted which can make it difficult to find a quiet training spot at peak times. The Abyssal orb and Abyssal wand are only dropped for players on an Abyssal Demon task. The Demons can teleport around the room which can interrupt your abilities if using Evolution of Combat. They drop a lot of gems so it is recommended you bring a gem bag.
Razorback gauntlets can only be obtained whilst on a slayer assignment to kill Airut. Airut have a special attack that deals huge amounts of damage which can only be blocked by using Flurry or Rapid Fire. Airut will try to target your weakness and as such will change between melee and ranged attacks depending on what you are using.
**In order to be assigned Ice strykewyrms you need to have completed the Tales of the Muspah quest. Additionally you need to own a fire cape or have purchased the ability to be assigned them for 2,000 Slayer Points.
Ice strykewyrms can only be lured out of the ground when assigned as a task. Occasionally they will bury underground and tunnel towards you, causing massive damage if you do not move. It is possible to take damage from other slayer's strykewyrms if they are nearby. Having a Fire cape equipped when fighting the strykewyrms greatly increases the damage done to them.
It is possible to fight these in pairs with only one of the pair requiring 95 Slayer. Ascension grips are only dropped for players on a Slayer task.
*Kuradal's dungeon can only be accessed by players with an assignment from Kuradal herself or from Morvran.
**Ice strykewyrms do not technically require a Fire cape to be assigned them due to the ability to unlock them for 2,000 Slayer points, however this is not advised due to the cost and the damage reduction from not using the cape.
Elite Monsters
Elite monsters are stronger variations of certain Slayer assignment monsters that have a rare chance of spawning upon killing a normal variant. These monsters can easily be identified by the skull icon that appears around them and a players receive a chat message when one spawns have considerably more lifepoints, give three drops from the monster's drop table and give 220% extra Slayer experience when killed.
All elite monsters have a randomly generated title comprising of a prefix and a suffix attached to their original name
If you visit the Slayer Tower, you will encounter an individual named Markus who is camped outside. You can speak to him to receive a Slayer contract, which works in a similar way to Slayer assignments. Markus offers two types of contracts:
A normal contract, which will not progress alongside a slayer assignment of the same creature, or
A special contract, which will progress alongside a slayer assignment of the same creature.
If you do not have a Slayer assignment for any of the creatures in the tower, you can speak to Markus to receive a normal contract. However, if you already have a task for a creature in the tower, speaking to Markus will instead give you a special contract.
Contracts require you to kill a specific amount of creatures in the tower whilst carrying the contract scroll. Each kill you make in a contract will award you 20% of the Slayer XP you would have earned if you had a Slayer assignment for that monster. Upon completion of the contract, you can return to Markus to receive either bonus combat XP or an amount of coins. These rewards vary based on the type and size of the contract, and combat XP can only be awarded in the Attack, Defence, Strength, Constitution, Ranged or Magic skills.
Note that kills made on a normal contract will not also count towards a Slayer assignment of the same monster; they will first count towards a contract until it is completed. However, kills made on a special contract will count towards both the contract and assignment. You can choose to start a special contract if you already have a normal contract, but not vice versa.
Possible contracts and their rewards are listed below:
Ever feel lonely while on a Slayer task or feel like embarking on a task with a friend? It's now possible to get a co-op assignment from any Slayer master! Before you and your partner can begin, the following requirements must be met:
You and your Slayer partner must be members.
You must either have no active Slayer tasks, or you must be on the same Slayer task.
You must both have completed at least one Slayer task.
Once you meet these requirements, it's simply a matter of using your enchanted gem on your partner to invite them to join your group. If you're joining a group, simply wait until a notice appears in your chatbox informing you of your invitation. When it appears, right click your enchanted gem and select "co-op options," then view and accept your invitation in the pop-up box.
The assignments are the same as for a solo-task, and creatures will be determined by the lowest slayer level in the two-man group. For example, a level 20 Slayer teamed up with a level 99 Slayer would not be assigned Abyssal demons, which require 85 Slayer. The main advantage of co-operative tasks is that a creature killed by either you or your partner will contribute to the overall slayer task count, thus taking roughly half the time to complete a task. Competition for kills is also reduced, however Combat and Slayer XP is not shared between you and your partner.
Slayer Points in a Co-operative task
For those teams who have completed the Smoking Kills quest and are eligible for Slayer Rewards, they will find upon the completion of a co-operative task that normal Slayer points are distributed between the pair. Right clicking your enchanted gem or slayer ring and selecting "kills left" will inform you in the chat box how many monsters are left as well as your and your partner's respective kill counts.
The ratio of you and your partner's kill counts determine how Slayer Points are distributed. Some examples below:
A slayer pair (Slayer A and Slayer B) choose a task from Mazchna in Canifis and are assigned 50 Wolves. Slayer A kills 24 Wolves, whereas Slayer B kills the remaining 26. As tasks from Mazchna reward only one Slayer point, Slayer B would receive the point as they killed the majority of assigned monsters during the task.
A slayer pair (Slayer C and Slayer D) choose a task from Vannaka in Edgeville Dungeon and are assigned 100 Werewolves. Both Slayers kill an equal amount of Werewolves; 50 each. The 4 points which Vannaka rewards are equally split between the pair: each get 2 points.
A slayer pair (Slayer E and Slayer F) choose a task from Kuradal in the Ancient Cavern and are assigned 200 Gargoyles. Slayer E kills 150 Gargoyles, whereas Slayer F only kills 50. This works out in a ratio of 1 kill for Slayer F to every 3 kills of Slayer E's. Hence the 15 points awarded are split into the same ratio of 1:3, which yields 4 points for Slayer F and 11 points for Slayer E after rounding.
Co-operative points and Rewards
As well as normal Slayer points, a team can gain Co-operative slayer points from each completed co-op task. 1 point is rewarded to each player regardless of individual kills. These points can be used for unique rewards, including pets and bonus effects during the co-operative assignment for both players. These rewards are outlined in the rewards shop section.
In addition to the traditional means of gaining Slayer experience, there are a number of repeatable activities that provide you with small amounts of experience for your time:
A small amount of Slayer XP based on your level and the challenge given.
Daily challenges are randomly assigned to any skill you have not opted to block. Slayer daily challenges involve killing a set number of an assignment from a slayer master, usually less than the task itself. These are typically not very good XP for the time taken unless you are actively training Slayer.
10,000 Slayer XP for the first kill, 250 Slayer XP thereafter.
Bork is fairly easy to kill for mid to high levels, melee gear should suffice. During the fight you will be attacked by Surok who cannot be damaged, however his attacks are not too dangerous. When Bork's health drops below 50% he summons Ork legions who will harass you but do not need to be killed.
5,000 Slayer XP for the first kill, 500 Slayer XP thereafter.
You must make your way to the top of the Phoenix's cave, collecting twigs and dodging the reborn monsters in the process. To face the Phoenix you need secateurs, a knife and a tinderbox or other method of making fire and 5 twigs from the cave.
A large chunk of Slayer XP based on the assignment
Death acts like a daily Slayer master with a twist: every task he assigns is a boss monster. The monsters assigned are dependent on your combat level. Completing the task will reward you with Slayer XP and Reaper Points which can be used to purchase some useful items.
"The Abyssal", "The Dark", "The Beast" & "Slayer Master" titles, a reward book, a most wanted card and drops based on the monsters you successfully defeated.
There are four difficulty settings: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum which require higher slayer levels to access and come with more dangerous monsters but better potential rewards. The "trial run" option will allow you to practise as much as you want however you will not get the reward book or the most wanted cards by doing this.
10,000 Slayer XP for the first kill, 1,250 Slayer XP thereafter.
The Skeletal horror has four forms, each time it loses some bones it is important you bury them to ensure it does not regain them and as a result regain its strength. The Skeletal horror will always attack you with a style you are not praying against.
After the fifth consecutive task with a Slayer master, you're able to earn Slayer points, which can be spent on slayer-related rewards at any Slayer master. These rewards range from useful equipment, to abilities that ease your slaying. After completing the Smoking Kills quest additional rewards will become available and the points for completing a slayer assignment will double.
To get points you must complete an entire Slayer assignment. This list shows the amount of points gained from each completed task from a slayer master after finishing Smoking Kills. Before completing that quest the points gained will be halved.

Any Slayer master will reward 1 co-operative point to each player upon the completion of a co-operative assignment, which can only be used on co-operative rewards.
If you change your current task by getting a new task from the Taverley slayer master, your slayer task count will be reset and you will have to complete another 5 tasks again to start gaining points. It is recommended to get a task from the highest Slayer master you can use for the 10th and 50th task, to maximise your points.
Upon reaching level 99 Slayer it is possible to purchase a slayer cape from Kuradal who can be found in the Ancient Cavern. As with all skill capes the cost is 99,000 gp. Players who already have 99 in another skill will instead receive a trimmed slayer cape.
After obtaining 99 Slayer it becomes possible to obtain a deadly shard randomly whilst training which can be combined with shards from the other support skills (Agility, Dungeoneering and Thieving) to create a support cape. It has the same stats as a trimmed skill cape.
True Slayer Mastery
Achieving 99 is the ultimate goal for many players, however the skill does not stop there. For players wanting to show off their dedication to a skill it is possible to obtain "True Mastery" by obtaining "120 Slayer" which is 104,273,167 XP. The Slayer master cape can be purchased from Kuradal for 120,000 gp.
It is worth noting that beyond level 99 there is no additional content for Slayer as the level increases are invisible so training the skill gets no faster. To work out your theoretical Slayer level check out our XP table.
